ACCIONA has finalized an agreement with Darby International Capital to acquire its high-voltage transmission lines business in Peru for €220 million. This significant investment positions ACCIONA as a leading operator in the Latin American transmission sector.
The acquisition includes over 1,200 kilometers of high-voltage transmission lines (500kV and 220kV) and 30 substations throughout Peru. Notably, it covers the 30-year concession project “Machupicchu-Quencoro-Onocora-Tintaya,” a 300-kilometer transmission line project that has been on hold since 2016. Once operational in 2028, this project is expected to enhance electricity connectivity in southern Peru.
The deal also integrates Darby International Capital's engineering, procurement, construction, and operation and maintenance teams into ACCIONA, bringing experience managing over 4,200 kilometers of transmission lines and 30 substations. This complements ACCIONA's existing projects in Peru, which include 820 kilometers of high-voltage power lines and more than 20 substations.
Globally, ACCIONA has a strong track record in transmission line construction and management, with over 70 projects completed in the past twelve years. Current major projects include the Humelink transmission line in Australia and the Central West Orana green energy distribution network.
ACCIONA has been active in Peru since 1998, with notable projects including the Lima airport control tower and the Peripheral Ring Road in Lima. The company’s renewable energy subsidiary, ACCIONA Energía, recently launched the San Juan de Marcona wind farm in Ica.
Darby International Capital is a prominent investor in emerging market private debt, with a focus on Latin America, and operates offices in Washington DC, Bogotá, and São Paulo.
