In an ongoing effort to enhance the reliability of its renewable energy assets, FINERGE, a prominent independent energy provider in Portugal and Spain, has expanded its collaboration with Camlin Energy to implement advanced transformer monitoring across its wind and solar projects.
Since the initial deployment in 2022, FINERGE has seen significant benefits from the TOTUS transformer monitoring system, which provides real-time insights into the health of critical transformer assets. By 2024, Camlin Energy had successfully installed 13 monitoring units across major projects in Portugal and Spain.
The system, designed to detect early signs of faults and prevent catastrophic transformer failures, ensures maximum uptime for FINERGE’s wind turbines and solar panels. As the company integrates solar energy into its existing wind sites, transformer performance has become even more crucial for maintaining grid interconnection and maximizing generation potential.
"To maximize grid interconnection, we are integrating solar generation into several of our wind energy sites. Understanding transformer health is vital for uptime so we can understand the risk profile of our transformers, respond rapidly to faults and safeguard power supply to the grid.” said Hugo Carvalho, Head of Asset Management at FINERGE
Meanwhile, Joaquim Silva, Asset Management at FINERGE, praised Camlin Energy's flexible installation process: "Implementing transformer monitoring across our major projects is a key strategic objective. Camlin Energy’s installation team recognized our business drivers and adapted their program to avoid any downtime.”
