ECUADOR – The Transelectric Business Unit of the Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) has carried out energization tests of the 230 kV transmission line for the new interconnection with Colombia.
These works are part of the new Pimampiro 230/138 kV, 225 MVA transmission system, which will benefit the provinces of Imbabura and Carchi, and will become the new interconnection point with Colombia, reports BNamericas.
The transmission system consists of the new 230 kV Ecuador-Colombia transmission line and the Pimampiro substation, located in the canton of the same name, in the province of Imbabura. The substation now has an updated protection and monitoring system.
The exchange of energy with the neighboring country will provide important economic resources for Ecuador, reports BNamericas.
The new connection ensures the current and future supply of energy to the distribution company Emelnorte, benefiting 526,000 inhabitants of the country’s northern provinces.
The general manager of CELEC EP, Gonzalo Uquillas, commented on the very satisfactory cooperation between the contractor and the technical team of UN Transelectri, which enabled the successful energization of bays 3 and 4 Jamondino of the interconnection with Colombia.
He also highlighted that with the new transmission system "we are delivering safe, reliable and ecological energy to Tulcán and Ibarra, which will substantially improve the quality of the electricity service to the concession area of the Emelnorte distribution company."
UN Transelectric manager Raúl Canelos commended the effort and commitment of the technical and administrative teams in this important project.
The Minister of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources, Juan Carlos Bermeo, said that these works are part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the grid and provide quality service to customers across the country.
