Moving towards a greener energy future, DNV has launched a Joint Industry Project (JIP) in partnership with Siemens Energy and other key industry players. This collaborative effort is set to revolutionize the sustainability, reliability, and environmental responsibility of power transformers, critical components of the energy infrastructure.
The JIP's primary focus is on addressing the environmental impact and sustainability of large power transformers, crucial elements in the energy sector's ongoing development towards environmental friendliness. By establishing standardized sustainability practices, the project aims to boost stakeholder confidence and propel the energy sector towards a more eco-friendly future.
Key objectives of the JIP include defining standardized boundaries and performance indicators, developing a recommended Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, establishing a basis for material passport and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) reports, and creating an assessment methodology for various end-user segments. The participation of leading industry partners underscores the importance of aligning industry practices with sustainability goals.
Prajeev Rasiah, Executive Vice President at DNV, expressed the organization's commitment to a sustainable future for the high voltage industry. The project's outcome, a DNV Recommended Practice, will serve as a foundation for effective communication and consultation among power transformer stakeholders, fostering trust and confidence in the green transition.
