A drone strike hit Port Sudan’s main power transformer station, plunging the city into a total blackout, the Sudan Electricity Corporation confirmed. The attack crippled essential services, including hospitals, government offices, and commercial activity. Concerns mounted that the outage could soon disrupt water distribution and public transportation.
The strike is part of escalating attacks in Port Sudan, previously untouched by the two-year conflict between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In response, Sudan’s army-aligned government severed diplomatic ties with the UAE, accusing it of arming the RSF — a claim the UAE denies.
The conflict has displaced millions and triggered what the UN calls the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. The latest strikes mark a dangerous expansion of hostilities, further straining Sudan’s crumbling infrastructure.
