A delegation from key Dutch ministries, including the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth and the Ministry of Finance, along with the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets, visited the Equans BeLux site in Hoboken at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges last week. The focus of their visit was the construction of the topside for the Hollandse Kust (west Beta) offshore substation, which will play a critical role in managing offshore wind energy.
This platform, the third of three 700 MW offshore transformer platforms developed by the Equans BeLux / Smulders consortium, is well underway. These transformer platforms are essential for converting wind energy generated at sea into high-voltage electricity for transmission to the mainland. The standardized design and lessons learned from previous projects have streamlined the construction process, ensuring the project remains on schedule.
Set to be installed next spring 50 km off the Dutch coast near Egmond aan Zee, the substation, together with RWE, will channel over 700 MW of sustainable wind energy to the Netherlands' grid, further advancing the region's renewable energy goals.
