BRAZIL – The South Brazilian Electricity Generation and Transmission Company – Eletrobras CGT Eletrosul is expanding the Joinville Substation in the State of Santa Catarina to increase energy supply quality and reliability.
Eletrobras CGT Eletrosul, subsidiary of Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras SA – Eletrobras, has commissioned WEG to supply a power transformer for the substation expansion project.
The new 138/69 kV 66 MVA transformer was delivered to the Joinville Substation site in June, replacing the 33 MVA equipment. The procedure increased the transformation capacity of the unit from 691 MVA to 724 MVA. The project is expected to provide the Northern region of Santa Catarina with reinforcement and greater reliability in the supply of electricity, Eletrobras said in a press release.
The activities and final tests were carried out by teams from the CGT Eletrosul Departments of Operation, Automation, Protection and Telematics, Maintenance and System Engineering.
The Joinville Substation expansion project will also include the replacement of 230/138 kV transformers 7 and 3, rated 75 MVA and 100 MVA respectively, with 150 MVA equipment. The 230/69 kV 100 MVA transformer 8 will also be replaced with a new 150 MVA unit.
The deadline for the completion of services, stipulated by Aneel, is January 30, 2022.
The estimated investment is approximately $6.8 million.
