PRETORIA, REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA — A fire accident happened at the SGB-SMIT Power Matla Pretoria West plant.
The fire started on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at approximately 4:30 pm. The exact cause is still unknown.
The fire has been extinguished and no injuries were recorded. The plant is currently on lockout until the relevant authorities finalize their investigation. The extent of the damage to the plant is still to be assessed.
SGB-SMIT has already embarked on a recovery plan to resume business operations at the Pretoria plant and are working intensely on the next steps to minimize the impact for their customers.
The Cape Town distribution transformer plant is unaffected by the fire and operations there continue as normal.
