Madison, WI USA - Expansion of their Power Grid Monitoring
Franklin Electric announced the expansion of their Power Grid Monitoring product line with the launch of the Distribution Transformer Monitor (DTM). The product should provide, meter-grade precision performance monitoring of high-value, mission critical, low voltage pad mount transformers and conventional pole top transformers. By continuously monitoring the key indicators of a transformer’s performance, the DTM should provide remote access to real-time transformer health data and automated alarms for condition-based maintenance planning.
According to the company, a built-in cellular modem allows the DTM to communicate via a cellular network enabling utilities to deploy DTMs virtually anywhere and at scale. A secure MQTT communication protocol allows the DTM to safely communicate with Franklin Electric’s web-based asset management database. This IoT database features data visualization tools that provides user-friendly access to all distribution transformer performance data for analysis and reporting in a centralized location.
“With the ability to monitor and trend transformer performance data including output voltage, loading (current) by phase, temperature, and Power Factor for an entire network of transformers, utilities are equipped with powerful information regarding energy distribution and equipment maintenance,” said Kuehl. “The DTM’s simple installation and cellular communication allows utilities to quickly and efficiently scale their distribution transformer resiliency planning.”
