In September, Ganz announced a significant deal with Hidroelectrica, Romania’s main electricity provider, to supply seven 45MVA, 245kV, single-phase transformers for the refurbishment of the Vidraru Hydroelectric Power Plant. This project is part of a broader €188 million investment to upgrade the Vidraru dam and enhance Romania’s renewable energy infrastructure.
The Vidraru dam is Romania's largest arched dam and one of the most important hydropower facilities in the country. The plant's renovation will boost Romania's renewable energy production and improve the efficiency of its national energy system.
The decision to use seven single-phase transformers was driven by the need to fit the equipment in the confined underground spaces of the dam. These transformers will be installed in small cells beneath the dam, where only single-phase units can be accommodated.
Lajos Harai, Sales Manager at Ganz, played a key role in securing the deal, further strengthening Ganz’s position in the renewable energy sector. The company is expected to deliver the transformers in the coming months.
