The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG), in collaboration with Eskom and City Power, is set to launch the Transformer Replacement Program in Kagiso, West Rand, on October 24, 2023, marking a significant step toward addressing energy challenges and bolstering communities. This initiative forms part of the Gauteng Energy Response Plan and focuses on the installation of power transformers to enhance energy reliability.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi will lead the inaugural rollout in Kagiso, where 41 transformers will be replaced, ensuring improved access to electricity for residents. Premier Lesufi emphasized the government's commitment to supporting communities by installing and replacing transformers, even though electricity falls outside provincial control.
In the coming weeks, other communities, including Zola and Dobsonville in Soweto, are slated to benefit from this transformative program. The Transformer Replacement Program aims to provide more reliable access to electricity and strengthen the province's energy infrastructure.
The program's kickoff event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 12:00 PM at the Swanneville Taxi Rank, Sandpaper Road, Kagiso, with plans to extend to areas such as Mayibuye, Rietvallei, and Lusaka. This initiative underscores Gauteng's dedication to improving energy services and supporting communities in need.
The replacement and installation of power transformers are central to this program, ensuring that residents have access to a more stable and consistent energy supply, fostering economic growth and prosperity in Gauteng.
