HD Hyundai Electric announced on May 23, 2025, that it will supply four 400 kV ultra-high voltage transformers to SP Energy Networks in Scotland. The contract was signed on May 22 at the SP Energy Networks headquarters by Jo Seok, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai Electric, and Eddie Mulholland, Chief Technology Officer of SP Energy Networks.
The transformers are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2028 and will be used to expand substations in central and southern Scotland. This contract is part of HD Hyundai Electric’s ongoing expansion in the European market, which includes countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, and Sweden.
In 2024, HD Hyundai Electric secured a 66.2 billion won contract for ultra-high voltage transformers with a Swedish power company. Last year, the company’s European orders totaled $437.75 million.
Europe faces an urgent need to replace aging power infrastructure, with approximately 40% of its power grid equipment over 40 years old. The European Union aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, making grid modernization crucial to support renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
