The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) remains steadfast in its mission to combat unpaid electricity bills and illegal power consumption across its region. In the ongoing drive, HESCO has disconnected power supply from more than 38 transformers, successfully recovering an impressive amount of over 200 million rupees.
A spokesperson for HESCO revealed that during these operations, they managed to retrieve a total of 200.6 million rupees from defaulters while collecting an additional 0.6 million rupees in fines. A significant part of this success came from disconnecting power from 38 transformers, with reported dues of about 80 million rupees from consumers who had been benefiting from these transformers.
The crackdown targeted various circles within HESCO's region. In the Nawabshah circle, power supply from 22 transformers was disconnected due to unpaid bills totaling over 67.6 million rupees. In the Laar circle, 13 transformers were taken offline as a result of outstanding dues amounting to 2.5 million rupees. Additionally, in the Mirpurkhas circle, 2 transformers were disconnected due to 4.3 million rupees in dues, and in the Hyderabad circle, one transformer faced disconnection due to arrears of 0.75 million rupees.
The spokesperson noted that since September 7, 2023, HESCO has successfully collected a grand total of 3,036.3 million rupees in the region. This sum includes 2,996.1 million rupees of unpaid dues and an additional 40.5 million rupees in fines. Throughout these operations, a total of 227 transformers were removed from service, and 1,116 letters were filed with relevant police stations to initiate FIRs against individuals involved in electricity theft. Furthermore, 410 cases were registered against unauthorized connections and customers with outstanding bills, leading to the apprehension of 43 electricity thieves.
