SPAIN — Hitachi ABB Power Grids is to provide eco-efficient high-voltage breakers for Iberdrola’s substation in Spain, as part of the company’s decarbonization efforts.
Iberdrola has selected Hitachi ABB Power Grids to install eco-efficient high-voltage breakers as part of a refurbishment project at the company’s Alhama de Murcia substation.
Hitachi ABB’s Live Tank Breakers (LTA) for 72.5 kV and 145 kV are expected to help accelerate efforts to make the Spanish grid carbon-neutral while enabling the reliable operation of the substation. The new installations will provide clean energy to support the sustainable agricultural development of the region.
Hitachi ABB has been deploying eco-efficient alternatives for high-voltage technology since 2010. The new LTA technology uses CO2 as an insulation gas mixture instead of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) and will reduce CO2-equivalent emissions throughout the total lifecycle, the company said in a press release.
The Alhama de Murcia substation is Spain’s first installation of eco-efficient high voltage outdoor live tank breakers that are expected to help Iberdrola reduce carbon emissions and make progress in the journey towards carbon neutrality.
