
Hitachi Energy has supplied rectifier transformers for a green hydrogen production facility in Songyuan, northeast China, developed by China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC). The site is one of the largest green hydrogen-ammonia-methanol integrated projects globally.
The transformers are a critical component of the electrolysis process used to generate hydrogen from renewable sources. The system supports a stable power supply and is designed for high efficiency, harmonic resistance, and low energy losses—key factors for the industrial-scale production of green hydrogen.
The broader project involves phased construction of a 3-gigawatt wind and solar power base, with energy used to electrolyze water and produce hydrogen.
China, already the world’s largest hydrogen producer, is actively expanding green hydrogen as a part of its national energy strategy. In late 2024, the country released a plan focused on clean hydrogen adoption in industry and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

The initiative is part of the first batch of low-carbon technology demonstration projects approved by China’s National Development and Reform Commission and is a flagship effort under Jilin Province’s “Hydrogen Powering Jilin” initiative. The facility is expected to produce 800,000 tons of green synthetic ammonia and methanol annually.
