Hitachi Energy India has recently designed and manufactured India’s highest power-rated Scott-connected transformer at its Maneja facility in Gujarat, catering to the needs of the Indian Railways. This milestone represents a significant advancement in the field of rail electrification, allowing for faster train speeds and more efficient power distribution. Atul Pandit, Senior Vice President- Transformer, Hitachi Energy India Ltd, sheds light on the technical aspects and importance of Scott transformers in railway infrastructure development.
Scott transformers play a crucial role in railway electrification by converting three-phase supply into balanced two-phase supply, ensuring efficient power distribution. The adoption of these transformers facilitates higher train speeds, reduced voltage drops, and increased train frequency, ultimately enhancing the overall railway network's performance and reliability.
The recent rollout of a 100MVA Scott transformer by Hitachi Energy India holds immense significance for Indian Railways. This transformer, designed and manufactured entirely in India, marks a substantial leap in enhancing rail infrastructure, particularly in transitioning to 2x25kV electrification across the country. With improved capacity and speed, travel between major cities is set to become quicker and more dependable.
Furthermore, Hitachi Energy India's capacity expansion plans align with the growing demand for Scott transformers in Indian Railways' electrification projects. As the primary end-consumer of Scott transformers, Indian Railways' ambitious plans for network upgrade and expansion ensure a sustained demand for such transformative solutions.
