Hitachi Energy has announced a $200 million USD investment to enhance its transformer manufacturing operations in Brazil, as part of a broader $1.5 billion USD global expansion plan. This investment, unveiled during the company's 70th-anniversary celebration in Brazil, will modernize the existing Guarulhos factory and fund the construction of a state-of-the-art facility, set to be completed by 2028.
The investment is expected to create over 600 direct jobs and strengthen Hitachi Energy's production capacity to meet growing global demand. These facilities will produce transformers essential for the energy transition, supporting projects in the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East.
Bruno Melles, Managing Director of the Transformers Business at Hitachi Energy, emphasized the company's commitment to a sustainable energy future, stating: "We are experiencing unprecedented momentum in the energy industry, and this investment underscores our focus on expanding our global footprint and positively impacting our communities."
Over its 70 years in Brazil, Hitachi Energy has contributed to key energy projects, including Itaipu and Belo Monte II, two of the world's largest transmission systems.
Transformers produced in these facilities are critical for integrating renewable energy, grid interconnections, and decarbonizing the energy grid.
