Hitachi Energy has officially laid the foundation stone for its new Hitachi Energy Park in Vikby, Mustasaari, Finland. The $180 million project will expand the company’s production and technology capabilities to meet the growing demand for power technology solutions.
Located in the Vaasa region, the new facility will span over 40,000 square meters and house a state-of-the-art transformer factory, along with modern office and testing facilities. This investment will double the company’s transformer production and testing capacity while creating approximately 200 new jobs in the region.
The foundation stone ceremony was attended by key officials, including Joakim Strand, Finland’s Minister of European Affairs and Ownership Steering, Rurik Ahlberg, Mayor of Mustasaari, and Peter Forssell, EVP of YIT’s Building Construction segment. They were joined by Matti Vaattovaara, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy in Finland, Bruno Melles, Managing Director of Business Unit Transformers, and Norbert Beatrix, HUB Europe Manager, Business Unit Transformers.
“This investment highlights Finland’s strong energy expertise and supports the transition to a carbon-neutral future,” said Matti Vaattovaara.
The Hitachi Energy Park is expected to be operational by early 2027, with groundwork continuing until autumn 2025. The new facility will play a vital role in enhancing Finland’s energy security and facilitating the export of clean energy technology.
In Finland, over 50% of wind energy flows through Hitachi Energy transformers and substations, making the company a key player in the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.
