YIT has signed a €105 million contract with Hitachi Energy to construct a state-of-the-art production and technology center in Mustasaari, Finland. The facility, located in the Vikby industrial area, will feature advanced product development, testing, and office spaces, along with a high-tech transformer production center. This investment will double Hitachi Energy's transformer production capacity in Finland to address the rising demand driven by the global energy transition.
Spanning approximately 44,000 square meters, the project includes earthworks, building technology installations, and the construction of ancillary buildings. Work has already begun, with full-scale construction set to start in February 2025 and completion expected in early 2027.
Matti Vaattovaara, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Finland, emphasized the importance of this initiative:
"Our new Hitachi Energy Park in the Vaasa region is a vital part of our global investment in a sustainable energy future. This center will help meet the growing demand for electrification while supporting our business growth."
Peter Forssell, EVP at YIT, highlighted the project’s alignment with YIT’s strategy, stating it will enhance Finland's renewable energy capabilities and bolster the nation’s energy security.
This collaboration represents a significant step towards advancing Finland’s role in the green energy transition and securing a carbon-neutral future.
