Hitachi Energy has secured a significant contract with Siemens Mobility GmbH to deliver 360 RESIBLOC® Rail onboard traction transformers for the upgrade of the S-Bahn München rolling stock. This project is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing Munich’s S-Bahn network with 90 new "XXL" trains, which will accommodate over 1,800 passengers per train. The first of these trains are expected to be delivered by the end of 2028.
The RESIBLOC Rail traction transformers, known for their oil-free design, will significantly boost the energy efficiency of the trains and contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing the ecological footprint. This technology has been in use for over a decade and has been optimized for rail applications, making it a critical component of Siemens Mobility’s modernization efforts.
The project will support Bavaria’s goal of increasing public transport capacity while ensuring operational safety, comfort, and sustainability. Markus Frank, Commercial Director for Commuter and Regional Trains at Siemens Mobility, emphasized the importance of the RESIBLOC transformers in meeting the service and environmental goals of the new trains.
With this collaboration, Hitachi Energy continues to lead in the field of dry-type transformers, with over 1,000 RESIBLOC Rail units already in operation globally.
