The Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL), Haryana state’s transmission utility, has launched a significant initiative to upgrade transformer capacity at five key substations in Haryana, India, within the next three months. This project aims to prevent power outages caused by overloading, especially during high-demand summer months.
The upgrades will include the installation of high-capacity transformers at two 220kV substations in Badshahpur and Daultabad, as well as at three 66kV substations in Sector 46, Daultabad, and IMT Manesar Sector 2.
A 100MVA transformer, valued at approximately $1.1 million, was delivered to the Badshahpur 220kV substation and will be operational soon. According to BK Raghav, HVPNL’s superintendent engineer, “By increasing capacity beyond the sanctioned limits, we aim to address overloading and ensure uninterrupted power supply next summer.”
Key improvements include:
- Replacing the 20MVA transformer at Badshahpur’s 66kV substation with a 31.5MVA unit.
- Adding a third 31.5MVA transformer at Daultabad’s 66kV substation, raising total capacity to 94.5MVA.
- Upgrading a 16MVA transformer at IMT Manesar Sector 2 to a 31.5MVA unit.
- Installing a second 31.5MVA transformer at the Sector 46 substation, doubling its capacity.
These upgrades will strengthen the regional grid, improve load distribution, and ensure consistent power for more than a dozen dependent substations. The project is scheduled for completion by March 2025.
