Iraq's Ministry of Electricity has signed a major contract to boost the country’s power distribution network by sourcing 4,026 transformers from local manufacturer Diyala General Company. This initiative aims to enhance grid stability, support domestic industry, and create job opportunities.
The agreement, signed by Alaa Samir Al-Jubouri, Director General of the General Company for Central Electricity Distribution, and Abdul Sattar Mukhlif Alewi, Director General of Diyala General Company, includes the supply of:
- 1,509 transformers (11/0.4 kV, 250 kVA)
- 2,500 transformers (11/0.4 kV, 400 kVA)
- 15 transformers (33/11 kV, 31.5 MVA)
- 2 transformers (33/11 kV, 63 MVA)
Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadel, who oversaw the signing, emphasized that this move aligns with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani’s directives to strengthen local production. He noted that the collaboration with Diyala General Company is a testament to Iraq’s growing industrial capabilities.
This development follows Iraq’s broader efforts to expand its power sector, including recent announcements of 15,000 MW in new energy projects. The country is also negotiating large-scale agreements with General Electric and Siemens to meet rising electricity demand.
Earlier reports also highlighted Iraq’s discussions with Iran on repairing 5,000 transformers and further energy cooperation.
