ITALY – Siemens Energy, TransformersTrento, Nynas AB and Gruppo Dolomiti Energia have tested the country’s first transformer filled with a biodegradable liquid.
The three companies have successfully tested Italy’s first 132 kV / 25 MVA transformer filled with biodegradable NYTRO® BIO 300X oil from Nynas.
The key advantage of the new biodegradable fluid is lower viscosity that offers good cooling properties, Siemens Energy said in a press release.
The substation is located close to the Natural Park of Adamello Brenta in the Dolomite Mountains.
“With projects like this Siemens Energy offers environmentally friendly solutions while ensuring great efficiency and reliability,” said Stefan Klaassen, General Manager of Power Transformers at Siemens Energy.
The new optimized transformer design allows us to fulfill the EU-Ecodesign regulation beyond the directive. This way the transformer´s CO2 emissions are reduced by more than 18 tons per year,” added Klaassen in a media release.
