Končar has launched construction of a new Laboratory for Large Electric Drives and Machines in Bedekovčina, marking a strategic investment of over €20 million aimed at enhancing regional technological capabilities and global competitiveness in the energy sector.
According to a statement from the municipality, the lab will span 2,700 square meters and reach a height of 28 meters, making it one of the largest and most advanced testing facilities of its kind in Europe.
Designed to test cutting-edge equipment used in High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission, the lab will be on par with top global counterparts in terms of technical capabilities. It will support research, development, and specialized testing of high-voltage equipment, particularly in support of the green energy transition.
The investment is expected to bring economic benefits to the local community, including the creation of high-skilled jobs, and help position the region as a hub for energy innovation.
The project comes amid strong momentum for Končar Group, which recorded a 46% increase in consolidated revenue year-over-year in Q1 2025, reaching €306.1 million. The group also reported a net profit of €65.1 million and a backlog of €2.15 billion.
