In a significant move towards redefining the energy landscape, the Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to reshaping the state's energy sector. Through the provisions of the Nigeria Electricity Act of 2023, the government aims to generate sustainable power for residents and foster socio-economic growth. A crucial aspect of this initiative involves the distribution of power transformers to communities across the state.

Engr. Abdulazeez Abdulganiy, the Commissioner for Energy, emphasized the importance of efficiently managing electricity generation, transmission, and distribution to promote growth. The Electricity Act, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, empowers states to regulate their electricity markets, grant licenses to private investors, and integrate renewable energy into their energy mix.

The Kwara State Coordinator of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Mrs. Aremu Zainab, highlighted the need for collaboration with the energy ministry to ensure proper regulation of environmental laws in the sector. The focus is on preventing pollution, encouraging operational efficiency, and fostering sustainable economic development.

In alignment with these efforts, the Kwara State Government has procured and initiated the distribution of transformers in five communities across the state. The benefiting communities include Balogun Fulani, Tanke, Oke-Odo, College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Gerewu Community, Reke, and Gbale Asun. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the immediate distribution to boost grassroots economies and address the hindrance to economic growth caused by the lack of electricity.

As the transformers light up these communities, Abdulganiy assured that the government is committed to addressing the electricity needs of other communities patiently awaiting their turn. The administration's proactive approach underscores its commitment to the welfare and development of all citizens.
