APC Media, the publishing company behind Transformer Technology, Power Systems Technology, and Women in Power Systems, proudly presents interviews with thought leaders from the industry we had the honor to meet at the CWIEME event in Berlin. Here we have Dr. Bahadir Basdere, President of Trench Group, sharing with us his expert insights on the topic of the challenges in the industry and the CWIEME event.
What do you see as the biggest challenges the industry is currently and how is your company addressing those challenges?
Bahadir Basdere: We are living in a world with many global challenges, where climate change is the most urgent and serious one. As leaders in the electrical industry, we are responsible for the energy transition from a fossil to a renewable-based power supply. This includes an increasing demand for electrical grids, for example, the German wind power industry plans to triple the generated off-shore power to 30GWh by 2030. This power must be transferred from the generation sites to the consumers far away from the shoreline.
In addition, the electrical demand is growing more and more– towards an all-electric world – e.g., electric vehicles, electrical heating, etc., with digitalization as an additional driver.
That’s why it’s not only about the number of new grids, there’s also the necessity to do this in a smart and sustainable way.
What are your thoughts on the CWIEME event so far? Have you seen any interesting developments or trends that are being showcased at the event?
BB: CWIEME is a key event for us, as a leader in high-voltage components. It gives us the chance to foster close relationships with our customers. In addition, it is interesting to see what other players, you might call them competitors, I call them partners, or fellow market players, are doing to move forward towards sustainable products and technologies. At the end of the day, customers only opt-in for new technologies if the market holds different options and sources. Therefore, it’s essential to collaborate with others across the industry and drive a global transformation.
What is your company's vision for the future of this industry and how do you plan to contribute to that future?
BB: Our vision is clear. We want to be a leading provider of sustainable products and solutions to drive sustainable change and be the first partner of choice for our customers to support them on their way toward sustainability.
