Wilson Power Solutions has successfully collaborated with GRIDSERVE and Gatwick Airport to power its Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations. The latest project involved the installation of 2 x 2500kVA, 33000/415V, and 2 x 3000kVA, 33000/615V Wilson e3 Ultra Low Loss Amorphous® Transformers, marking Gatwick Airport as the first international airport in Europe with its dedicated EV charging station.
The newly opened Gatwick Electric Forecourt® offers 30 electric vehicle chargers, fueled by 100% net zero carbon energy. Like all GRIDSERVE sites, this one is also equipped with both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, the facility accepts contactless payments and provides real-time status updates on popular EV charging maps. This transformation aligns with GRIDSERVE's commitment to combating climate change and encouraging electric vehicle adoption.
The Wilson e3 Ultra Low Loss Amorphous® Transformers not only distribute energy efficiently but also contribute to substantial energy savings, reducing CO2 emissions and operational costs. As part of longer-term infrastructure investments, these transformers have proven to deliver significant returns, with a payback calculator showcasing potential savings exceeding £100,000 over the transformer's lifetime.
Gatwick Airport's Electric Forecourt® is not just a charging station but also an immersive experience zone for EV enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the latest electric vehicles and take test drives, promoting the adoption of sustainable transportation. With over 2000 successful installations nationwide, Wilson Power Solutions continues to play a vital role in helping organizations across sectors save operating costs and lower emissions through its amorphous technology.
