Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR) and Avacon Netz commemorated a significant achievement with the handover of the 10,000th on-load tap-changer for voltage-regulating distribution transformers (VRDTs) in Salzgitter. This milestone marks the culmination of years of collaboration between the two companies in advancing innovative grid technology.
Wilfried Breuer, Managing Director of MR, and Frank Schwermer, Managing Director of Avacon Netz, were present for the ceremony. Breuer expressed gratitude for Avacon’s steadfast cooperation, noting the joint efforts have significantly contributed to the efficient integration of renewable energies into distribution grids.
Armin Vielhauer, Head of Distribution Grid Applications at MR, highlighted the global impact of the technology, which is now used in over 90 countries. Dr. Johannes Schmiesing, Head of Asset Strategy & Innovation at Avacon Netz, underscored the importance of VRDTs in addressing the evolving demands of low-voltage grids and supporting decarbonization efforts.
With around 2,300 VRDTs installed in Avacon’s network, the technology has become a crucial component in the transition to smarter and more sustainable energy grids. Both companies reaffirmed their commitment to continued innovation and collaboration to tackle future challenges in the energy sector.
