BRAZIL – Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen do Brasil Industria Mecanica (MRB) has been commissioned to modernize a transformer for the Aperam Timóteo steel plant.
Aperam Timóteo steel plant is a privately owned, integrated steel plant located in Timóteo, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The scope of the project involved the revitalization and modernization of the 50 MVA 230 kV COEMSA transformer, ensuring its longevity and enabling the online monitoring of the asset, MRB said in a press release.
The manufacturer carried out the complete disassembly of the transformer. The rmodernization works included oil treatment, replacement of gaskets, painting, electrical tests, supply and installation of a new transformer auxiliary panel and installation of the system that protects the diverter switch insert against tap short circuits.
The MRB technicians replaced all accessories with MR models, such as the DGA equipment, smart air dryer, oil and winding thermometers, oil level gauges, Buchholz relay, pressure relief valve (PRV), bushing monitoring, and the equipment for complete monitoring of the transformer and tap changer incorporated into the motor drive.
The project was completed in July 2021.
