A 178-tonne supergrid transformer is set to be delivered to Bramford Substation on Sunday, January 5, 2025, as part of National Grid’s efforts to upgrade the UK’s power system.
The transformer, a critical component for enhancing the substation's capacity to meet growing energy demands, is not directly linked to the Bramford to Twinstead power line project recently approved but aligns with the broader network improvement strategy.
The journey will begin at Ipswich Docks’ Cliff Quay around 8 a.m. The transport convoy will cross the Orwell Bridge, proceed along the A14, and traverse Sproughton before arriving at Bramford by noon. Temporary road closures, including both A14 carriageways, will be implemented during the delivery, and some signage will need to be removed to facilitate the convoy’s passage.
The delivery underscores the ongoing investment in the UK’s energy infrastructure to support increasing electricity demand over the next decade.
