EG.D, a member of the E.ON Group, has commissioned the Brno-Sever transformer station, one of its largest infrastructure investments of 2025. Located on Klusáčkova Street, the new 110/22 kV substation significantly increases grid capacity in Brno, Czech Republic, and supports the integration of renewable energy, electric vehicle infrastructure, and industrial development.
The €16 million project includes 2.7 kilometers of newly constructed 110 kV underground cable, built in a dense urban area without an existing collector system. The solution required direct installation beneath roadways, involving complex drilling, excavation, and coordination with city infrastructure managers.
“This is our most important project of the year,” said Pavel Čada, Vice Chairman of the Board at EG.D. “It relieves nearby substations and creates a reserve for Brno’s future energy needs.”
Construction began in September 2023 and was completed in 16 months, ahead of comparable timelines. The Brno-Sever station is part of the ACON project, a cross-border initiative co-developed with Západoslovenská distribučná to strengthen grid integration between the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Funding was supported by the EU’s CEF Energy program, with the Brno-Sever project receiving a €7 million grant, the largest investment under ACON.
“This represents the culmination of years of preparation and EU alignment,” said Tomáš Manosoglu, Head of Subsidy Management at EG.D.
