The 400/110 kV transformer at Transformer Station (TS) Manastir 2 is officially operational, representing a significant advancement in ensuring energy stability for Southwest Macedonia. Installed by JSC MEPSO, this modern infrastructure upgrade strengthens the regional grid and ensures a stable electricity supply during peak demand periods.
The new transformer reduces stress on the transmission network, securing energy for the cities of Struga, Ohrid, Resnje, Manastir, and Prilep. Additionally, it supports uninterrupted power generation at REK Manastir, the state’s primary electricity producer.
“This is more than a technical upgrade; it’s a lifeline for reliable electricity in Southwestern Macedonia,” stated Burim Latifi, General Director of JSC MEPSO. “We inherited a fragile system but have delivered stability, resilience, and confidence to the region.”
Initially launched in 2023, the project encountered delays but was revived and expedited under new management. The installation faced logistical and environmental challenges, including navigating complex transport routes and winter conditions, but was completed successfully to meet the urgent energy needs of the region.
This upgrade is part of JSC MEPSO’s broader initiative to modernize North Macedonia’s energy infrastructure. By addressing longstanding weaknesses, the company aims to deliver a stronger, more resilient power grid for citizens across the country.
“This marks the beginning of a comprehensive transformation to ensure a secure and sustainable energy future for North Macedonia,” JSC MEPSO emphasized.
