Calais, FRANCE - Using GE’s g³ insulating gas to replace SF₆ should result in a reduction of 99% global warming potential.
Nexans has announced that GE’s alternative to the more dangerous SF₆ (sulfur hexafluoride) gas, has been selected as an innovative solution inside the Composite Outdoor Sealing End of its cables. Following many computational simulations, materials compatibility studies, and the successful 420 kV HVAC Type Test achieved in February 2022, Nexans has decided to expand this SF₆-free solution.
The successful completion of the test was accomplished in Nexans’ High Voltage laboratory in Calais, France, under the certification of an independent third-party and with the support of GE Renewable Energy’s Grid Solutions business in Villeurbanne (France).
