Nigeria's power sector received a significant boost as Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, inaugurated five projects under the phase one of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). These projects, located in Okene, Kogi State, Amukpe, Delta State, Potiskum, Yobe State, Apo in Abuja, and Ihovbor, Edo State, are geared towards enhancing the country's electricity infrastructure.
The phase one of the PPI aims to increase Nigeria's wheeling capacity by 272 megawatts, leading to a more robust delivery of electricity to consumers nationwide. Speaking at the commissioning of the 60MVA Power Transformer in Lokoja, Kogi State, Minister Adelabu praised the strides of the FGN Power Company under the initiative, describing it as a systematic approach to addressing Nigeria's perennial issues of unreliable power supply.
In addition to the inauguration in Kogi State, four other sites were remotely commissioned, including locations in Delta State, Yobe State, Abuja, and Edo State. The Managing director/CEO of FGN Power Company, Mr. Kenny Anuwe, emphasized the historic significance of these initiatives, highlighting the collective boost in transmission wheeling capacity by 272MW.
The deployment of 10 Power Transformers and 10 Mobile Substations across Nigeria marks a pivotal step towards revitalizing the power sector and improving electricity access for the Nigerian people. These initiatives align with the administration's commitment to achieving enhanced power supply, driving economic growth, and realizing national objectives.
The partnership between the Nigerian government, German government, and Siemens Energy underscores a shared ambition to elevate Nigeria's power supply from 4,000 megawatts to 25,000 megawatts. With improved power supply, regions like Kogi State are poised for increased investments in sectors like agriculture and food processing, fostering economic growth at personal, regional, and national levels.
