PG&E is upgrading the Del Monte Substation in Monterey with a high-capacity transformer imported from Korea to meet the growing energy demands of Monterey, Seaside, and surrounding communities.
The transformer, designed to handle significantly higher capacity, was transported by cargo ship to Long Beach, moved to the Monterey Fairgrounds, and then delivered to the substation during overnight hours to minimize disruption.
Installation is currently underway, with the project expected to be completed by March 2025. This upgrade aims to improve reliability and reduce the risk of power outages in the region.
