Prolec GE, a key player in global energy infrastructure, has unveiled an $85 million investment to bolster single-phase pad-mount transformer manufacturing capacity. The move, part of Prolec GE's commitment to sustainable energy, aims to meet the soaring demand in North America for these transformers. The company plans to double its manufacturing capacity in Monterrey, Mexico, with a new facility that incorporates cutting-edge technology to enhance productivity and ergonomics.
Prolec GE's CEO, Ricardo Suarez, expressed excitement about the investment, stating, "We are thrilled to be investing additional time and money to increase our manufacturing capacity in support of North America’s electrification goals. With the majority of this new capacity being allocated to U.S. utility customers, Prolec GE is proud to provide the critical equipment needed to improve grid resiliency, efficiency, and reliability."
To optimize production and supply chain synergies, the new facility will be located within close proximity to the existing site. Construction is set to commence in 2024, with completion scheduled for June 2025. This move underscores Prolec GE's dedication to being a strategic partner in the journey toward a sustainable energy future.
This latest investment raises Prolec GE's commitment to North American customers to over $145 million. The company's earlier plans to manufacture three-phase pad-mount transformers in the U.S., along with additional infrastructure upgrades, demonstrate its proactive approach to meeting the evolving needs of the energy sector. Prolec GE is also investing in power transformer process improvements to enhance throughput and decrease manufacturing cycle times.
Prolec GE, a joint venture between Xignux and GE, has been an electric industry leader for over 25 years, with manufacturing facilities strategically located in Mexico, the United States, and Brazil. The company's commitment to exceptional customer experience, superior quality products, and sustainable solutions positions it as a reliable partner in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy.
