Rețele Electrice Dobrogea, a subsidiary of the PPC group, formerly known as E-Distribuţie Dobrogea, has successfully concluded a project valued at approximately 2,4 million US$ (11 million RON). The project focused on enhancing the distribution capacity of four high-voltage overhead power lines in the Romanian Constanța – Medgidia – Mircea Vodă area, alongside the modernization of four primary substations within the same vicinity.
Funded in part by the European Regional Development Fund through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020, with non-reimbursable financing totaling 10 million RON, this initiative marks a significant step towards fortifying the region's energy infrastructure. The upgraded high-voltage lines (110 kV) not only boost distribution capacity but also facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources, supporting the transition towards greener, decarbonized energy networks.
The project encompassed various critical upgrades, including the replacement of conductors on the network route to augment distribution capacity, modernization of poles through repainting and strengthening, and the replacement of six high-voltage concrete pillars. Additionally, measuring transformers in the four primary substations were replaced to accommodate energy generated from renewable sources.
Mihai Pește, General Manager of Rețele Electrice companies, emphasized the importance of resilient networks aligned with evolving energy trends. He highlighted the necessity for extensive modernization projects, like the recently completed initiative, to meet current and future distribution needs, especially in regions marked by a proliferation of renewable energy projects.
This comprehensive project, initiated in September 2022 and spanning a total duration of 17 months, not only enhances supply security for customers, producers, and consumers but also contributes to national objectives outlined in the Energy Strategy and the National Plan Integrated in Energy and Climate Change. By reinforcing power lines and modernizing infrastructure, Rețele Electrice Dobrogea is playing a crucial role in advancing Romania's transition towards sustainable and decarbonized energy systems.
