In an ambitious move towards modernization, Retele Electrice Muntenia is set to complete the overhaul of the Obor and Filaret transformer stations in Bucharest by the end of 2024. This announcement came during a recent press conference where Mihai Peste, the general manager of Retele Electrice companies, outlined the company's progress and future plans.
Peste highlighted that over 95 percent of transformer stations in the Muntenia region are already modernized, with efforts now focused on the remaining stations in Bucharest. Additionally, the company has digitalized stations in Dobrogea and Banat, alongside preparing investment programs for power amplification and equipment replacement to enhance resilience in case of disruptions.
Bucharest residents can expect improved electricity distribution services, with Peste noting that the city experiences only about 40-50 minutes of power outages per customer per year, placing it close to the European average. Notably, Retele Electrice Muntenia recently completed the modernization of the North Power Station, the largest primary substation in the country, with an investment of approximately 70 million RON from the company's own funds.
The North Power Station plays a critical role in supplying electricity to key institutions, including the Government, public and private hospitals, as well as numerous embassy and consulate buildings. With upgrades aimed at increasing security, flexibility, and capacity, the modernization efforts signify a significant step towards enhancing the reliability and efficiency of Bucharest's power infrastructure.
