Jaipur-headquartered RMC Switchgears is poised for substantial growth in its operating revenue with the planned expansion of its manufacturing plant in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Ankit Agrawal, the Whole-time Director & Chief Executive Officer of RMC Switchgears Ltd, revealed that the company's focus is on expanding the manufacturing capacity of smart meter enclosures at its Jaipur facility.
The expansion plan, requiring an investment of 1- 1,3 million US$ (Rs.7-10 crore), aims to boost the capacity of distribution transformer (DT) meter enclosures by 3 lakh units annually. RMC Switchgears, in alignment with the Union power ministry’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), is strategically targeting opportunities within the DT meter space.
Ankit Agrawal explained that while consumer meters face intense competition and are often produced in-house by meter manufacturers, RMC Switchgears specializes in supplying SMC enclosures, particularly to Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Providers (AMISP) executing RDSS-related smart metering contracts under the TOTEX model.
With orders already placed for 12 lakh units out of an expected 115 lakh SMC enclosures to be deployed under RDSS, RMC Switchgears anticipates significant business opportunities, particularly in the DT meter enclosure segment. Moreover, the company is poised to explore other avenues within the RDSS framework, such as infrastructure works beyond smart metering, including underground cabling and substation automation.
As the next phase of RDSS is anticipated to focus on power distribution infrastructure upgrade works with an estimated outlay of Rs.5 lakh crore, RMC Switchgears eyes a substantial market share and aims to directly participate in tenders alongside supplying enclosures and materials to EPC contractors.
