Collett Transport and IQA Elecnor Group have successfully completed the transportation and installation of a 148-tonne transformer at the Neilston Grid Stability Facility in Scotland. The project, part of National Grid's Pathfinder Programme Phase II, involved intricate logistics and heavy-duty equipment.
The operation commenced at KGV Dock in Glasgow, where Collett Transport received the oversized cargo, managing all port handling under CPA contract lift conditions. Prior to transportation, Collett conducted extensive preparatory work, including route surveys, civil works coordination with local councils, and the production of detailed lashing plans.
Utilizing a 250-tonne girder bridge trailer and specialized jacking equipment, Collett assembled a 16-axle configuration for the transport. The convoy, spanning 60 meters in length, traveled under police escort during late evening hours to minimize traffic disruptions.
Upon arrival at the site, Collett employed hydraulic jacking and skidding techniques to maneuver the transformer onto its final plinth, ensuring precise alignment with rail tracks for operational efficiency.
David Sanz Delgado, Project Manager at IQA Elecnor Group, expressed satisfaction with the milestone, highlighting the transformer's role in enhancing grid stability and efficiency.
This achievement marks a significant advancement in Scotland's infrastructure, underscoring Collett Transport's expertise in heavy haulage and project logistics.
