UGANDA – SGB-Smit Power Matla was contracted by a Ugandan utility for the design, manufacture, testing, installation and commissioning of transformers for a hydroelectric power station project.
The contract with a Ugandan utility covers the design, manufacture, testing, installation and commissioning of 20 MVA 132/11kV and 20 MVA 33/11kV transformers for a project in Njeru, Jinja, Uganda, the manufacturer said in a press release.
The hydroelectric power station is situated across the White Nile near its source at Nalubaale (Lake Victoria). The new transformers commissioned by SGB-Smit will replace the existing units which will be decommissioned.
The two transformers were tested at the manufacturer’s Pretoria facility. The FAT results demonstrate that the units are ready for installation.
SGB-Smit Power Matla has been present in South Africa for over 75 years, with a distribution transformer manufacturing facility located in Cape Town and a power transformer facility in Pretoria.
