Shanghai Electric has announced the successful commissioning of Uzbekistan’s first digital substation in Jizzakh Province. The Zafarabad 220 kV Digital Substation spans 75,000 square meters and has a capacity of 400 MW. This new facility is a key step in modernizing the country’s energy infrastructure.
The substation is equipped with two 250 MVA auto-transformers developed and manufactured by Shanghai Electric, which will step down voltage from the 220 kV grid to 110 kV for local distribution. Additionally, the digital substation features advanced monitoring and data acquisition systems that significantly reduce the need for on-site maintenance while improving operational safety. The real-time monitoring capabilities allow quick detection of faults and efficient load adjustments to minimize disruptions.
This project marks an important milestone for Uzbekistan as it continues to modernize and improve its power grid with cutting-edge technology, enabling more efficient and reliable energy management.
