PFISTERER, a global leader in electrical connection technology, has been awarded a contract by Siemens Energy to deliver turnkey cable systems for the DolWin4 and BorWin4 offshore grid connections. These projects will enable the efficient transmission of offshore wind energy to the German mainland, playing a key role in the country’s renewable energy transition.
As part of the contract, PFISTERER will design, install, and manage the 66 kV AC cable infrastructure connecting the gas insulated switchgear (GIS), transformer, and submarine cable interface on both platforms. The alternating current (AC) generated by offshore wind farms will be converted into direct current (DC) on the platforms, ensuring minimal energy loss during transmission to shore.
Located 125 kilometers northwest of Borkum in the North Sea, DolWin4 and BorWin4 are set to be operational by 2028. With a combined transmission capacity of 1,800 megawatts, the platforms will generate enough power to meet the needs of a city the size of Hamburg.
Stefan Kuhn, Project Manager at Siemens Energy, highlighted PFISTERER’s expertise and proven solutions as key to the successful execution of the projects. André Roth, Senior Project Manager at PFISTERER, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering innovative and reliable cable systems for offshore energy infrastructure.
