AUSTRIA - The transformer will soon be on its way to Canada, where it will be installed within a historic hydropower dam.
Natascha Ladstätter, from Siemens Energy Austria, has announced that the 65 MVA 13.8 – 240 kV generator step-up transformer was successfully tested last week. The transformer will soon be on its way to Canada, where it will be installed within a historic hydropower dam 350km (217 miles) from main cities and after 50km (31 miles) of gravel road.
According to Ladstätter, the unit is built to endure operations from -50C to +40C and is a prime example of a replacement transformer to increase transformer rating thus hydropower output within existing space limitations and with the same connection points.
