After enduring 11 months without electricity, residents of Hlanganani in Braamfischerville, Johannesburg are finally emerging from the darkness, thanks to the recent installation of City Power-sponsored transformers. Spearheaded by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, this initiative marks a significant milestone in the community's quest for uninterrupted power supply.

The atmosphere in Braamfischerville turned jubilant over the weekend as Premier Lesufi, flanked by MEC for Economic Development Mzi Khumalo and City Power technicians, oversaw the replacement of two long-awaited transformers. Amidst the celebrations, 59-year-old Dineo Sibisi shared her relief and gratitude for the restoration of normalcy in their daily lives.

"Mam' Sibisi," as she's affectionately known in the community, remarked, “We are profoundly grateful to Panyaza for spearheading this initiative. The prolonged absence of electricity has taken a toll on us, forcing us to resort to costly alternatives like gas stoves. But with our lights restored, we can finally afford the luxury of conventional electricity.”

Premier Lesufi took the opportunity to reassure the community, urging them to safeguard the newly installed transformers and emphasizing the importance of adhering to electricity payment obligations. He clarified that funds from the City Power of Johannesburg were allocated to procure and install the transformers, in line with the government's commitment to addressing infrastructural challenges and enhancing community resilience.
