OREGON – Salem Electric and SPX Transformer Solutions have completed the project of adding a 40 MVA power transformer to the Hughes substation in West Salem.
In September 2020, construction began to construct a new 40 MVA power transformer for the Hughes Substation in West Salem, Oregon.
The manufacturer SPX Transformer Solutions constructed the unit and the not-for-profit electric cooperative Salem Electric delivered it to the substation site in January 2021.
The transformer was energized just days before the ice storm hit in mid-February and proved to be an important addition to the distribution system. With the added transformer, the substation can take on more load, helping restore power to customers during storms.
