State Grid has successfully completed the replacement of two aging 35 kV transformers at the 220 kV Changzheng Substation in Shaoxing’s Binhai Development Zone, Zhejiang Province, to ensure stable electricity supply during the summer peak.
The Changzheng Substation, a vital power hub serving surrounding industrial parks, originally commissioned its No. 1 and No. 2 transformers in 2007 and 2008. Due to prolonged operation under heavy loads, both units had shown signs of wear and required replacement.
From June 3 to 6, State Grid carried out hoisting and installation operations, implementing strict safety protocols for high-risk tasks such as current transformer hoisting. The company emphasized site safety through a combination of remote and on-site monitoring, process supervision, and adherence to working-at-height regulations.
Young technicians participated actively under experienced team leaders, gaining practical skills and contributing to the smooth completion of the upgrade.
The company confirmed that after a detailed inspection on June 12, both new transformers are operating reliably. These upgrades aim to improve power supply stability in the Binhai area ahead of increased summer electricity demand.
As the spring inspection phase concludes, State Grid stated it will continue reinforcing maintenance operations and personnel capabilities to support ongoing grid reliability.
