The Tanzanian government is strengthening its electricity infrastructure with the installation of two 340 MVA transformers at the Kinyerezi One natural gas power station. This upgrade integrates with the existing 50 MVA unit, boosting the station’s power generation capacity beyond its current 335 MW to meet the country’s growing energy demand.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, highlighted the rapid rise in electricity demand due to industrial and economic growth, particularly in Dar es Salaam, where demand has surged by 16% compared to last year.
TANESCO Managing Director Gissima Nyamo-Hanga emphasized the government's commitment to supporting industrial development, particularly in regions like Mkuranga, by expanding power station capacity and upgrading infrastructure.
The project also includes a 50-150 MW transmission line from Kinyerezi to Gongo la Mboto and upgrades to Mbagala and Gongo la Mboto substations. These initiatives aim to ensure reliable power access and support Tanzania’s ongoing industrialization and economic development.
