AUSTRALIA, TASMANIA – One year after it was ordered, a new 300-tonne power transformer has arrived at Bell Bay Aluminium, a smelter plant situated on the Tamar River in Tasmania.
The 168 MVA power transformer was manufactured by Victoria-based Wilson Transformer Company for the smelter power project to replace the 52-year-old asset, reports The Examiner.
Once completed by Wilson Transformer Company, the transformer left the Post of Hastings in Victoria on March 22 and arrived at Bell Bay on Sunday.
The installation and preparation of the transformer for use is expected to take almost eight weeks due to the size of the transformer and the logistics of installation in the smelter switchyard.
