The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the successful installation and energization of a new 60MVA power transformer in its Sagamu 132/33kV Transmission Substation, located in the Osogbo region of south-west Nigeria. In addition to the transformer, the construction of a Control Room has also been completed at the substation. This development was shared by TCN on their official Twitter handle @TCN_NIGERIA.
According to the tweet, the Sagamu Transmission Substation previously operated with two 30MVA transformers. With the addition of the new 60MVA transformer, the wheeling capacity of the substation has doubled from 48MW to 96MW. This significant increase in capacity will result in more available bulk power for distribution to consumers in Sagamu and its surrounding areas, particularly benefiting the Ibadan Distribution Company (DisCo).
The installation of the 60MVA power transformer is a crucial step in improving the electricity supply in the Osogbo region. By doubling the wheeling capacity, TCN aims to address the growing demand for electricity and reduce instances of power outages in the area. This upgrade will not only benefit consumers but also contribute to the overall economic development of the region by ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply.
